Sienna Stingley leads Sterling softball to shutout win: Sauk Valley Media sports roundup for Tuesday

Sterling senior Brecken Peterson holds a plaque presented to him on SHS Tennis Senior Night, Monday, May 6, 2024. Peterson was honored before his final home match as the Golden Warriors' all-time record-holder with 100 wins at No. 1 singles. He broke Tom James' 40-year-old record for career singles victories.

Sterling 10, Alleman 0 (6 inn.): At Rock Island, a big sixth inning turned into a big win for the Golden Warriors in a Western Big Six game Tuesday.

Olivia Melcher homered and drove in two runs to spark the offense for Sterling. Ady Waldschmidt, Georgia Gallardo, Lily Martinez and Sienna Stingley drove in runs for the Golden Warriors. Stingley also struck out 10 as Sterling improved to 19-3 overall and stayed on top of the Western Big Six at 11-1.
