Carl Sauter

GRANVILLE — Carl Sauter, 77, of Granville passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018, at Manor Court in Peru.

He was born May 4, 1941, in Propheststown to Leo and Mabel (Engelhaupt) Sauter. He married Carol Walgenbach June 15, 1963. She preceded him in death on Feb. 6, 2017.

He graduated from Tonica High School. He loved farming. He started farming at a young age and later farmed with his two sons, Dave and Jim. He had a passion for Oliver tractors, and enjoyed collecting and restoring antique Olivers. He started tractor pulling in the early 1960’s and was later joined by Dave and Jim. Later his grandson, Michael, joined the pulling team and still pulls today. He was a member of the Illini State Pullers and Sacred Heart Church.

Surviving is one son, Jim (Ginny Farneti) Sauter of Oglesby; one daughter-in-law, Noelle Sauter of Oglesby; one sister, Pat Senica of Utica; and one grandson, Michael (Hannah) Sauter of Tonica.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a son, David.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17 at the Dysart-Cofoid Funeral Chapel in Granville with Father Paul Meismer officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Tonica.

Visitation was held Sunday, Dec. 16, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers were Mike Sauter, Luke Holly, Mike Passini, Dale Senica, Eric Dauber and Mike Sadnick.
