LOSTANT — Lostant fifth- through eighth-grade science students competed in the bridge building contest at Dimmick school.
The classes have been working for the last several weeks to design and build a balsa wood bridge. The bridges had to be between 15 and 18 inches long, less than 5 inches tall and less than 4 inches wide.
The heaviest Lostant bridge to compete weighed 30 grams and the lightest weighed 16 grams. At the competition, weight was applied to each bridge to test its strength and endurance. Lostant competed against 11 other schools with a total of 96 teams.
“We are proud to announce that the team of Makenzie Chambers, Dylan Busch, Brayden Scurti, Paityn Skinner and Lucas Weisbrock placed fourth out of the 96 teams,” said Lostant science teacher Tricia Haynes. “This led Lostant to a second-place school finish for the day. I am extremely proud of their hard work and dedication to this project. Fantastic job!”
