STANDARD — Residents of Standard are asking for donations to help in building a veterans memorial in the village.

“The men and women on this memorial gave their donation to our country. Can we count on you?” says a letter from the village hall.

Donations may be sent to Standard Veterans Memorial Fund, c/o Granville National Bank, 328 S. McCoy St., P.O. Box 344, Granville, IL 61326, says village treasurer Deborah Marchesi.

Donations to the fund also can be sent to the village office.

On Veterans Day morning, veterans attended a ceremony and “pre-dedication” for the memorial.

In attendance on Veterans Day were veterans Bill Haage, Jim Haage, Doug Ossola, Terry Dove, Gary Bruno, Len Bertuli, Bob Borri, Jerry Masini, Larry Grosenbach, Dave Thompson, Art Ramey, Becky Ramey, Phil Euler, Gerry McIntyre and Andy Bennet.

Residents attending included James Reno, Deb Marchesi, Joe Ellena and Frank Vulcani.
