LaSalle County Sheriff Tom Templeton released the following statement: On Aug. 19 at approximately 8:26 p.m., deputies received a report of a child abduction attempt. Information regarding the incident and suspect vehicle was disseminated to area law enforcement officers, as well as through social media.
On Aug. 21, investigators followed up on information received from a parent regarding his juvenile son and their vehicle that matched the description given. Detectives interviewed the vehicle’s owner, as well as the juvenile son whom they learned had been using the vehicle at the time of this incident.
Detectives learned the juvenile son was driving south on Hoxey Road, just south of the Somonauk park, when he saw a young boy walking barefoot on the shoulder of the road. The boy also appeared to be limping. The juvenile driver stopped on the side of the road and asked the boy if he was all right. When he did this, the boy took off running.
Investigators also spoke to a witness who observed a boy running northbound without shoes on, on this same date, time frame and location. The witness also described a similar truck stopped in the area. The vehicle reportedly drove off toward Lake Holiday.
At this time, it appears there was no attempted child abduction, that this situation was a misunderstanding, and that there is no immediate danger to the public.
