‘Hike for a Cure’ set for Oct. 6

OGLESBY — Starved Rock Lodge is now accepting reservations for its annual breast cancer awareness fundraising event called “Hike for a Cure.”

This year, a pre-party is planned for Saturday, Oct. 5, on the veranda of Starved Rock Lodge.

“We’re going to have ‘Think Pink Drinks’ and live music from 8 to 11 p.m.,” said Des Ratajczak, food and beverage director at the lodge. “We’re also going to sell raffle tickets as another way to support this worthwhile event.”

The hike will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, on the veranda. There will be four guided hikes — at 9, 9:30, 10 and 10:30 a.m. — or participants may hike on their own.

Once registered, each hiker will get a pink “Hike for a Cure” T-shirt and a HOPE stone to carry with them as they depart from the Back Door Lounge and take a hike to the top of Starved Rock. A light breakfast will be provided for participants.

Preregistration is required, along with a fee of $20, which includes a donation to the local chapter of Relay for Life and the local Pink Ribbon Club. To register, call 815-220-7386 or sign up online at
