The seventh annual Aden Lamps Foundation 5K Run/Walk will be Sept. 14

SPRING VALLEY — The Aden Lamps Foundation will host its seventh annual 5K Run/Walk at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at Hall High School in Spring Valley.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. with an adult fee of $25. Early registration lasts until Sept. 8 and includes a discounted adult fee of $20. After Sept. 8, the fee is $25 and children aged 14 and under can register for $15, and children aged 3-7 can participate in a fun run for $10. There will also be an untimed one-mile walk. Fees include a T-shirt for all ages, and there will also be raffle baskets and a 50/50 drawing.

The Aden Lamps Foundation helps spread awareness for SUID (Sudden Unexpected Infant Deaths). The Foundation was started in 2014 by Aden’s mother, Ashley Lamps, and since the inception, has purchased 6,800 sleep sacks and more than 4,000 safe sleep board books, which are then donated to Illinois Valley Community Hospital, St. Margaret’s Hospital and LaSalle County WIC.

Every local newborn receives a sleep sack package valued at approximately $25. It contains a reusable bag, a sleep sack (a zip-up wearable blanket) and an infant board book. The mission of the Foundation is to educate local families on the dangers of an unsafe sleeping environment for infants. The sleep sacks are a safer alternative to having loose blankets in the crib. Aden Lamps, the son of Andy and Ashley Lamps, died in 2013 of a SUID at the age of 4 months.
