TONICA — Karen M. (Cabal) Sons, 75, of Tonica died Wednesday morning, Jan. 16, 2019, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born Aug. 16, 1943, in Spring Valley to George and Bertha (Appel) Cabal. She married Kenneth R. Sons on Sept. 15, 1962, at St. John the Baptist Church in Lostant.
She was a graduate of Tonica High School, Class of 1961. Until her retirement she worked as a banquet server at Starved Rock Lodge.
She was a member of Holy Family Church and Tonica American Legion Auxiliary, a former member of the Tonica Fire Department Firettes and a life-long Cubs fan.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Brenda (Randy) Burkart of Peru and Tammi (Michael) Martyn of Oglesby; one son, Anthony (Lisa) Sons of Wenona; seven grandchildren, Brett and Britney Burkart, Jordan, Shawn, and Paige Sons, and Tyler and Taylor Martyn; and one brother, Donald (Audrey) Cabal of Streator.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, in Holy Family Church in Oglesby with the Very Rev. Gary Blake, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Tonica. Visitation will be prior to the service, from 9 to 10:45 a.m., at the church.
Pallbearers will be her seven grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to the Tonica Fire Department.
