Mary Herlocker

LAKE BLUFF — Mary Ryan Herlocker, 84, passed away Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018. She had been a resident of Lake Forest and Lake Bluff since 1992.

She was born Jan. 3, 1934, in Tonica to Oliver Hubbard and Dorothy (nee Hildebrand) Ryan. Mary and her husband, Fred, were married in Kenilworth in 1956.

Mary received her registered nursing degree from Evanston Hospital and her master’s degree from Louis University. She worked at Evanston Hospital and was the youngest head nurse in the E.R., also working in orthopedics and the burn unit. After raising her children, Mary returned to work as the school nurse at New Trier East High School, 1974-75. She worked for 14 years as administrator for the Mather Foundation in Evanston, and was the director of admissions at Lake Forest Place in Lake Forest for six years, retiring in 2004. After retirement, she served as chairman of the board of the Midwest Palliative & Hospice Care Center.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, J. Fred Herlocker. She was the loving mother to John F. (Debra) Herlocker Jr. of York, Pa., and Julie (Pietro Cecchini) Herlocker of Venice, Calif.; and loving grandmother to Hailey Ryan Burkhardt, Jackson James Burkhardt, Ezio Cecchini and Luca Cecchini.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Gerald, Kent, Max and Donald Ryan; and a sister, Irene McMahon.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m., with a memorial service at 3 p.m., on Monday, Oct. 22, at the Wenban Funeral Home, 320 Vine Avenue, Lake Forest. A private burial will take place that morning at Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie.
