SPRING VALLEY — Chris Ploch of Tonica had a profitable day with his two sons on the river in the Illinois River Walleye Classic Saturday.
The Plochs snagged the top prize sponsored by the Spring Valley Walleye Club event, totaling 14.84 pounds with five fish. They received $2,240 for their efforts.
Cade Ploch, 16, also snagged the big fish, a 5.96-pound sauger that came with an additional $700
Runners-up Bruce Merkel, Wayne Merkel and Dave Hall totaled 14.35 pounds with five fish, winning $1,240.
Third place went to Mark Meravy, Dave Zurawski and Terry Carr with five fish totaling 13.43 pounds. They received $600.
The fourth-place prize of $400 went to Dave Gossar, Dirk Pagakis and Jay Walsh at five fish, 11.83 pounds.
Rounding out the top 10 were fifth, Gary Merkel, John Smith and John Balla (five, 10.84 pounds).
Sixth, John and Jena Dalzot and Shawn Herrick (five, 9.16 pounds).
Seventh, BJ Liebe, Brandon Bickett and Ryan Vecchia (five, 8.80 pounds).
Eighth, Mike and Mark Abrahams and Gary Pinter (five, 7.45 pounds).
Ninth, Dave Puetz, Jason Thies and Glen Daugherty (five, 7.6 pounds).
And 10th, Paul, Ted and Nick Mathews (three, 6.09 pounds).
Other teams were: 11th, Ryan Feldott, B Samolitis and Jer Skupien (two, 5.80 pounds); 12th, Keith McAlpine, Al Way and Lee Michael (four, 4.99 pounds); 13th, Radu and Albert Volintir (two, 3.64 pounds); and 14th, Scott Anzulas and Bob Jones (one, 2.58 pounds).
