At 11:14 p.m. on Feb. 1, the Tonica Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call for a mutual aid tanker to assist the Lostant Fire Department at a structure fire at 157 North 14th Road.
At 12:03 a.m., the Tonica Volunteer Fire Department was called for a second structure fire at 279 North 17th Road, which is the same address as the recent church fire. Firefighters found an unoccupied two-story farmhouse totally involved with fire, and Tonica requested a MABAS box alarm.
Mutual aid was received from the fire departments of Oglesby, Utica, McNabb, Standard and Toluca, with the LaSalle County Police providing traffic control. The State Fire Marshal’s Office Fire and Arson investigator was contacted. Weather conditions were poor and caused some equipment to freeze and fire ground operations to be hazardous due to slippery conditions. Tonica cleared the scene at 2:46 a.m.
At 12:20 a.m. on Feb. 4, the Tonica Volunteer Fire Department and Standard Fire Rescue responded to a reported one-vehicle rollover accident on Route 71, just east of the LaSalle-Putnam county line. On arrival, emergency personnel found a pickup truck in the field on the north side of the road. The one occupant had been able to get out of the vehicle without assistance, and medical personnel examined and treated the driver for minor injuries. The driver refused transport to a hospital. Putnam County and LaSalle County Police were also on scene, and LaSalle County Police investigated the accident. Tonica Ambulance was released from the scene in about an hour.
