Revival of the church ladies for RVP show

HENRY — Due to the success of the first production of “Church Basement Ladies” and the audience response, River Valley Players decided to continue the story of this unique group of women.

“A Second Helping: The Church Basement Ladies Sequel” picks the story up in 1969 with the world changing with protests from the Vietnam War increasing and women everywhere demanding equal pay for equal work. In their small rural Minnesota community, the ladies of the Lutheran church basement kitchen are dealing with changes of their own.

With their heartwarming humor and antics, “A Second Helping: The Church Basement Ladies Sequel” takes us from the high school students at the Luther League Banquet to a church-sponsored Missionary night, and the rise and fall of the Vikings Super Bowl Sunday. From the elderly matriarch to the young mom to be, these women find strength in their pastor and one another as they deal with the joys, sorrows and upheavals from below the “House of God.”

The show will be presented at St. John XXIII Community Center, 1302 Second St. in Henry.

Dinner theatre tickets are $35, which includes a salad bar and buffet dinner, three complimentary beverages and dessert, followed by the show. Performances are Saturdays, Nov. 4 and 11, at 6:30 p.m. and Sundays, Nov. 5 and 12, at 12:30 p.m. Doors open 30 minutes prior to the meal being served.
