Bagpipes program scheduled at Putnam County Library District

STANDARD — J. Kevin Chapman will present a program at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, at the Standard Library Branch located inside of the community center. He will take participants on a trip and introduce you to the history of the pipes and present a narrative on the story behind one of the oldest instruments still played in the world. This will include a demonstration and display of the regalia surrounding the pipes.

Chapman is a Piper on the Great Highland Bagpipes and has been playing for almost 30 years. He is featured at many solo events such as weddings, parties and other events. He plays the pipes both solo and formerly with the Shannon Rovers Pipe Band and currently with the Dundee Scottish Pipe Band. He also competes in solo piping competitions and band competitions.

Chapman has played before four presidents, Pope John XXIII (23rd), Tip O’Neill, Cardinal George and both Mayor Daleys. Also, he is a graduate of the North American Piping School and the Balmoral School of Piping.
