IVSO will present concert on Sunday

OGLESBY — You don’t have to leave the Illinois Valley to listen to the finest music in the world. Join Maestro Lucia Matos and the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra in their 67th season at IVCC Cultural Centre at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, for an "Afternoon in Paris and Vienna." The program will include all-time favorites such as the "Blue Danube Waltz" and "Radetzky March" by Johann Strauss and "Les Patineurs (The Skaters Waltz)" by Emil Waldteufel.

Soloist for the season opener is clarinetist Cory Tiffin, who will perform Premiere Rhapsody by Claude Debussy. Tiffin is instructor of clarinet at Loyola University. He has also served on the faculties of DePaul University, University of Nevada–Las Vegas and the Chicago High School for the Arts. He teaches privately in Chicago, at home and through the University of Chicago, and in Las Vegas and appears as a guest clinician and lecturer at universities and schools nationwide.

Tiffin has performed in recital with the Grammy Award-winning Chicago Chamber Musicians, collaborated with Fulcrum Point New Music Project, the University of Chicago New Music Ensemble and the International Chamber Artists, among others. Recent highlights include featured solo performances of Leonard Bernstein’s Prelude, Fugue, and Riffs with the Las Vegas Philharmonic in April 2016 and a solo set on Chicago’s Thirsty Ears Festival in August 2016.

A graduate of Ottawa Township High School, Tiffin began private study of the clarinet with Sarah Reckmeyer as an eighth grader. He continued his private studies with Gene Montgomery before pursuing his Bachelor of Music at DePaul University.

Admission to the concert is by season subscription or individual ticket, available at the door or online at www.ivso.org. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for student K-college with identification. This program is sponsored by Ottawa Radio Stations and season sponsor Central Radio Group, and by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council. The auditorium is handicapped accessible.
